Academe, n.: An ancient school where morality and philosophy were taught. Academy, n.: A modern school where football is taught. (Ambrose Bierce)

A contribution from Mark Z.:

There are some pretty cool Mizzou videos on YouTube.com, as you’ll see from the below links. Amazing what one can find on the Internet nowadays.

In 1978, in Warren Powers’ first game as Missouri coach, we went to Notre Dame and beat the defending national champions 3-0. The next week, ranked 11th, we hosted No. 1 Alabama and Bear Bryant at Faurot Field. As you’ll see in the first link, ‘Bama surged to a 17-0 lead. Then, Mizzou quarterback Phil Bradley — later to become an All-Star outfielder with the Seattle Mariners — and future NFL players Kellen Winslow, Gerry Ellis, James Wilder and Leo Lewis went to work. Within minutes, Mizzou led 20-17 at half. This was my first game as a student, and I still remember what a wild scene Faurot was that day. Alas, a blocked punt in the second half turned the tide for ‘Bama.

The second link (below) is a compilation of the Nebraska games from 1997 (the “Flea Kicker” game) and 2003 (when we finally beat them).

And finally, this last link takes you to a YouTube.com homepage, where you’ll find various Mizzou videos. Be sure to scroll down and click on the “See All 17 Videos” link. That way, you’ll be able to see the complete collection, including highlights from the games this season with Illinois, Mississippi and Western Michigan and last year’s controversial loss to Oregon State in the Sun Bowl.

That (1978) was the season Mizzou beat Nebraska in Lincoln, and a mob descended on Missouri’s Faurot field and dismantled the goal posts even though the team and game were two states away.
